Our Story

Fisherman's Net Church was birthed in 2002.

Okay, let's backtrack a little bit..... Jim and Joy MacInnes were working as assistant to Dr. Gerald Derstine in 2000. In the summer they were with Dr. Derstine in Christian Retreat Family camp in Strawberry Lake in Ogema, MN. Then when the camp closes for the winter - they serve Gerald in the Christian Retreat in Bradenton, Florida.

In 2001, the Lord started to speak to Jim and Joy's heart about  a "new work" He is going to use them. After much prayer - they knew it was to start a church. But where, Lord?  To make a long story short - God led them to Venice, Florida.  They "spied" the land for many months, making the long drives from Bradenton as much as they can to get acquainted with the area. They rented a PO Box and now - they have ownership on a piece of property in the city.

God supernaturally helped Jim and Joy name the church. Going through endless possibilities of names.... God literally painted the word "Fisherman's Net" on the wall of an old warehouse along US 41 in Bradenton. That name immediately agreed in their spirit. Returning to the same warehouse many days later - the building was nowhere to be found. Fisherman's Net Community Church it is!

In 2002 they had the first official church meeting of Fisherman's Net in a building in the corner of US 41 and Shamrock Blvd. It was a small downstair function of a Days Inn Hotel.  Fast-forward now 14 years later - the church has had an interesting journey! We have moved to 6 locations in these past 14 years - met amazing people from all walks of life - the Lord continously adding to our number each year - salvation of many lives - the saints within the church maturing and walking out their gift and calling - and a lot more to share here! Fisherman's Net may be a smaller church but it has a big footprint for the Kingdom.  A year after the church was started - Joyful Expressions Christian Bookstore was opened. Joyful Expressions has been a very strategic concept in meeting and serving the people in the community.  Many lives has been changed through this ministry - and many friendships has been forged through the years.

Fisherman's Net is seriously committed to the preaching of the Word, locally and internationally. We are seriously committed in raising disciples for Christ and seriously committed in fulfilling the Great Commission. Missions is an integral part of the church.

We thank God for keeping power and His faithfulness in the life of the church.  And the story continues to be written....
